What is a BattleFrog Race?

BF Field Team

The BattleFrog is an obstacle course racing series designed by US Navy SEALs that is approximately 15K in length and minimum of 30 obstacles. There are combinations of heats, one that focuses on time for those looking for a challenge, as well as open heats for those just looking for the experience of the race and encourages teamwork. You must be at least 16 years of age to race this course. In 2015 the BattleFrog will be holding two day events instead of just one.

At this event, you will get a taste of obstacles that our Navy Seals have to do for training and in the open heats you will always have the option to skip an obstacle and opt for the 8 count body builders instead. Compared to other obstacle course races, BattleFrog seems to be the best price out there. You get live Navy Seal demonstrations (which are great for spectators and none of the other races have), shorter courses for kids and different length courses for beginners and experienced to be challenged at all fitness levels. There are even SEALs spread throughout the race to offer assistance and encouragement. To have a real American Hero cheering for you and helping you meet a challenge is sure to put an incredible adrenaline rush into your system!

At BattleFrog, every elite member is given a wrist band and the only way to win money is to finish every obstacle and finish your wristband still on. There are no penalties on course for elites, but no helping each other either, just mandatory completion of every obstacle or you must surrender your wrist band and are effectively disqualified from the prize money. Even if you give up your wristband you can still complete the race, log a time and get a medal. The top three men and women get some nice prizes, podium photos, and even a trip in a helicopter!

battlefrogDon’t think you are ready for a BattleFrog? Then perhaps the Bullfrog is for you. This is a shorter version of the BattleFrog race, about the distance of a 5K that includes a minimum of 15 of the same obstacles found in the longer race. You must be at least 13 years of age to race this course. There is a tadpole dash for ages 4-6 that includes 10 special obstacles that are geared towards their size and are accompanied by their parents at no additional cost. The Bullfrog mile is for ages 7-13 and is the same course as the tadpole but this group is challenged to complete the approximate 1 mile course on their own without assistance.

If you are still not sure about actually doing this event, come check it out as a spectator. The fee for this is only $20 and entitles you to all of the fun and not only watch participants as they race through the course, but also to enjoy the family friendly festival area. I am currently a BattleFrog field team member and if you use my code BFLLOSA and you will receive 15% off of your race fee for any race they offer nationwide.

Unfortunately you have to be 13 or older to do the no 8k (the 5k format was changed officially yesterday to an 8k) and the age max on the bullfrog course is 12 so you unfortunately would not be able to do it with him, but you could cheer him on.
